Long Time No Blog

With my current schedule I’m finding it incredibly difficult to blog consistently :-( .  I hate it when my pictures get backed up in my camera.  Since I don’t want to be lugging my heavy laptop around everywhere, I’m going to try to upload my pictures at night and blog from a remote computer in the morning.

Anyways, a lot has happened in the past week!  First of all, my relatives from Beijing are visiting this week!  For those of you who know me, you’re probably wondering, Lin has relatives?  YES I DO (just not many)!!!  And I want to wish a HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to DAPHNY!!!  She is joining me in the 24 club!!!

So, I haven’t been cooking very much and instead, have been grabbing lunch on the go at Trader Joe’s on 6th Ave.  Today I had a TJ’s raspberry soy yogurt and veggie hummus wrap.  I actually really enjoyed the soy yogurt despite its dismal reviews here (yes I am the weird girl who looks up reviews of her food… as she’s eating it).

Lin approved food!

I found it to be sweet but not too sweet with a nice yogurty texture.  It didn’t taste like tartar sauce to me!

I also ate a veggie hummus wrap:

Had to open it with a box cutter!

Never thought I’d put box cutter and lunch in the same sentence!

The wrap was tasty-ish but a bit bland…

… which is surprising, considering that it has 26% of your daily value for sodium.

26% of your DV sodium??? Didn’t taste like it!

It would have tasted much better if they had used TJ’s edamame hummus instead or added goddess dressing :-P !.

Over the weekend I was able to spend a little bit more time in the kitchen.

Daikon + Soy beef + Scallions

Loved the daikon, didn’t love the soy beef :-\

I also made this wintermelon soup!

Wintermelon + Sun-dried Tomatoes + Mushrooms + Tofu = DIVINE!

It’s getting a little late so I’ll post more about it tomorrow, but I had been curious about the Philip Stein watches and their Fruitz counterpart.

WARNING: NERDY STUFF AHEAD!

The watches utilize natural frequency technology which the Fruitz website claims “may relax and calm you, and reduce your stress level too.” I had emailed the Fruitz people to see the full study (they responded quickly and very nicely to my inquiry) but they didn’t really answer on topic.  The closest I came to finding the study was on the Philip Stein UK website, here.  However, I can’t determine whether their findings are statistically significant or even clinically significant yet.  Anyways, more on it tomorrow!

Making the Best Out of Nothing

I have NO idea where all of the vegan cafes are in NYC (sad but true) so I have to make ado with getting lunch from TJ’s on 6th Ave.

I love my Hello Kitty Sigg bottle and I am not ashamed!

I saw those raspberries and they just screamed, “EAT ME!”  I love eating raspberries over any other type of berry because they don’t stain my fingers (blueberries, I’m looking at you!).

It’s been so disgustingly rainy these days that I’ve been eating a lot of warm soups.  I whipped up this concoction last night in about 30 minutes: tofu, mushrooms, edamame, veggie broth and kombu.

Yum!

I’m just going to say right now that if you’re vegan or vegetarian, eating kombu is a great alternative to fish in terms of flavor. It has that salty, oceany taste that one would most likely associate with our little friends in the sea.

Just for fun, what’s your favorite berry?  Do you avoid certain ones because of how messy they can be?
